We explained in a previous article why it is better and more beneficial to make our own cosmetic products using natural ingredients that we can easily find. (See: 6 Hair Conditioners You Can Prepare at Home for Cover Girl-Like Hair )
The face is the part of our body that most visibly expresses our self and identity, so it is the part we all care about the most and want to take the best care of.
It is possible for us to produce our own face cream, using the most natural ingredients possible, in a way that best suits our own needs and desires.
Note: If you have allergic, easily reactive, extremely sensitive, intensely acne-prone skin, or if you are a pregnant/nursing mother or someone receiving continuous treatment for any disease, be sure to consult your doctor before applying these mixtures.
Essential ingredients and tips
The basic ingredients needed to make face cream at home are almost the same as those used in other homemade cosmetics.
Basic ingredients: Beeswax, coconut oil, vitamin E capsule, cocoa butter, olive oil, sesame oil, sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, wheat germ oil.
Beeswax is used to thicken creams. If you do not need your cream to be very thick, you can skip beeswax. Also, grating the beeswax before melting it in the bain-marie method will help it melt more easily.
Coconut oil is an essential ingredient in almost every homemade cream and mask. It can be used for every skin and hair type. It is also safe for sensitive skin. It is one of the best oils for nourishing, moisturizing and repairing. Be sure to buy cold-pressed and organic ones. If you can find the fruit itself, you can also make your own oil at home by removing the inside and blending it in a food processor. Remember that it becomes solid below 24 degrees and liquid above 24 degrees, so you should store it in a cool and dry place.
Olive oil has been used for thousands of years by Mediterranean and Mesopotamian cultures not only in cooking but also in cosmetic products. Just like coconut oil, it can be used for all skin and hair types and has equally nourishing, moisturizing and restorative properties. Choose the purest, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil you can find for use in homemade cosmetics.
You can buy vitamin E ampoules from pharmacies or vitamin E oil from herbalists.
You can add Aloe Vera gel to all the recipes below due to its skin-renewing properties. However, you should prefer those that contain more than 95% gel. If you are going to use the gel inside the leaves of aloe vera that you grow at home, produce your face cream in quantities that will last for 3-4 days and store it in the refrigerator, as this substance does not stay fresh for more than 2-3 days.
Additional ingredients are usually essential oils, and you can choose one of these oils based on your skin type, your skin needs, or just because you like the scent: Lavender oil, Aloe Vera gel, grapefruit oil, lemon oil, orange oil, frankincense oil, tea tree oil, rosemary oil.
